14fps vs 7 is huge in sports, it tracks better, and the buffer is deeper if you shoot long action sequences. Long story short yes the 1DX2 will produce a lot more keepers.

What context are we talking? High School? NHL? Are you a pro or an amateur? But like bu82 said, the AF isn't a massive difference.īu82, you mentioned the grip upped the FPS on the 5d4? I never noticed that. Your keeper rate will go up dramatically with the 14 fps of the 1dx2 vs the 5d4 for hockey. I've shot a lot of D1 hockey with both bodies. Don't get the 1DXMKII just for the AF - get it for other reasons. I've shot many events with the 5D just fine. The grip will give you slightly more FPS on the 5D, but I doubt improve AF. I think more than the AF, the FPS, the buffer, and the write speeds are what make the 1DXMKII my 1st choice for action. But it's not something I can measure or quantify.

For some things the AF is fine, but the 1DXMKII is just faster all around. I use both, but the 5DMKIV as a remote or for portrait work.

What focus modes do you use? How many points? What kind of shots are you missing due to the AF? Answering these questions would provide some better insight. I have not used a 5D Mk IV, so I cannot compare.

The low light AF was very good and was able to capture useable images at 12,800 and 25,600 ISO when in dark parts of the field.
